When you’re ready to get out on the road and start your vacation, the last thing you want is some unforeseen problem holding you back. Some problems can’t be prevented, but many can, and with just a little bit of routine maintenance, you can make sure your RV, fifth-wheel, or travel trailer is in top form at all times. That way, when the right sunny weekend rolls around, you can drop everything and chase the sunset. Here at Camp Site RV, we pride ourselves on our knowledgeable team of technicians that can fix most problems with your RV. Slide Outs
Slide outs are a really cool feature on your RV. in just a few seconds some RVs can add 20-30% to the available floor space, but you can’t take your slide outs for granted. About twice a year you should lubricate your slide out rails and runners using a dry silicone spray. If you have started noticing a creaking, grinding noise as your slide outs operate, it may very well be that the rails need a little attention. If you use your RV slideouts more frequently, you may want to consider scheduling this bit of maintenance a little more frequently.
Maintaining Seals
The seals in your RV are really important to your comfort when you travel. These components can also make a big difference in the longevity of your travel trailer or motorhome because they prevent water intrusion, which can encourage frame damage, mold, and mildew inside your camper. Seals can be protected for a longer life using silicone based lubricant rubbed in a thin layer over the top, but ultimately your seals are going to wear down and crack from exposure to the elements. Make sure you inspect all of your seals and weather stripping at the beginning and end of your travel season and make any necessary replacements as soon as possible to prolong the life of your RV.
Ventilation
Many RV owners think it’s common sense to close up your entire RV at the end of the season, but sealing up the interior outright can cause some problems. High temperatures will bake your rubber and plastic components, reducing their lifespan. Cool weather leads to condensation buildup in the RV, which in turn allows mold and mildew to gain a foothold in your furniture and fabrics. When you put your RV away for any length of time put some RV vent covers over your roof vents and leave the vent open a crack. This will allow hot air to escape, and moisture won’t collect as staunchly.
Service Appointment
Regular service appointments will allow you to have confidence that everything in your RV is in the best shape possible. Is your furnace knocking? Is water heater running cold? The truth is, there are some pieces of maintenance you should leave to the pros. Many electrical systems, appliances, and your propane system have the potential to be dangerous when incorrectly serviced. While you may be brave enough to replace your home water heater or stove, problems with these things in an RV can be difficult to deal with due to the tight spaces and unique designs.
If you have an issue with your RV, whether it’s the engine of your motorhome, or an issue with the furnace in your travel trailer, come in and see us at Camp Site RV and let our expert service team take a look at your RV.
