RV theft isn’t very common, but it's best not to take unnecessary risks. Some common sense habits are usually all it takes to prevent your RV from being taken. Use the advice in this guide from Camp Site RV to help prevent your RV from being stolen.

Parking

The easiest way to prevent your RV from being stolen is to simply park it in a safe area. The more foot traffic that an area sees, the greater the number of potential thieves. Smart thieves will think twice before trying to go after your RV if there’s a good chance someone will see them. If your RV is a towable model, you should park it away from the road as well to make it more difficult to hitch it up without your permission.

Lock Everything

Another easy way to help keep your RV from being stolen is by installing a lock. Lock your RV’s doors and windows whenever you leave it unattended. Towable RVs can be further secured through the use of a hitch lock, while motorhomes can be secured by using a wheel lock or tire boot.

Hide Valuables

The last thing you want is to leave valuable items such as jewelry or electronics in plain sight. It’s best to stow them away when not in use. Don’t forget to draw your blinds as well! You can also invest in a safe if you want to give your belongings extra protection.

Other Precautions

Some companies install security systems into RVs. While these systems can be effective, they are also expensive. A cheaper way to help deter RV theft is by making your camper more easy to identify. This can be accomplished through decals, a custom paint job, and/or a unique interior design. A more unique and identifiable RV is easier to recover.
